Revelation 12. Mary, Queen Of Heaven?
Introduction
I have made it extremely clear within my previous Articles that I was formerly a Protestant, specifically a Lutheran. I now have no denomination at the moment of these writings but I am looking very closely at the Catholic Church and I am fairly set on inquiring what is required to join. Not only in the Lutheran Church but in every other denomination that is not part of the Ancient Churches, despise the Blessed Mother. They speak of her in respect when there are passages relating to her in the Bible, but out of it, they slander her to the point they seem to be making her out to be lower in worth then humans. I remember the continuous slander of the Catholic Church by my Lutheran church, telling me: "Catholics consider Mary a goddess!" I remember them also telling us about how Catholics give her a "blasphemous" title, The Queen of Heaven. I remember blindly following what I was told, I could give the excuse that I was young but that excuse is of no good. It wasn't until recently when I had discovered Orthodoxy and then decided to look into Catholicism that I came across videos about Mary and my eyes were opened and everything was explained perfectly to me. Within this Article I will be going over a couple verses to show to you that Biblically Mary is the Queen of Heaven.
Section 1. The Old Testament
Christ goes by many names as the Christ in the Old Testament. King Messiah, Son of Man, the Son of David. The Messiah Biblically was foretold to be Davidic King who would be from the line of David. There are many Davidic Kings mentioned in the Old Testament and never once is their wife mentioned with the authority, however the King's mothers are for the most part are named with their sons who are Kings of Israel signaling they have a title along with their sons in the Kingdom as a Queen. This idea of a mother being called the Queen and her son being the King is hard for Western people to grasp their minds around however this was the practice in Israel during the Bible especially with the Davidic Kings. Here are a handful of verses that show when a King is mentioned to begin his rein, their mothers are named as well. [ 1 Kings 14:21; 15:9-10; 22:42; 2 Kings 14:2; 15:2; 15:33; 18:2; 21:19; 22:1; 23:31; 23:36; 24:8; 24:18; Jeremiah 29:2 ] And when Babylon conquered Israel and took captives, the King and his mother are taken captive. [ 1. 2 Kings 24:12 ] In the verse the princes is the King's Wife. Solomon had 700 wives and they were called princesses. [ 2. 1 Kings 11:3 ] The Husband is the King and the Wife is the Princes, and the Mother of the King is the Queen. This is even further backed up by Jeremiah 13:18, where the King and Queen Mother of Judah are being addressed. So if the Messiah who is coming is from the Davidic line and will become King, and is called the Son of David, wouldn't the mother of this Messiah be the Queen? Not to Protestants. We can even see the reverence held for the Mother to be Queen, in the case of King Solomon. [ 3. 1 Kings 2:19-20 ] She is given the second highest seat of honor in the kingdom, the right hand of the King.
Section 2. The New Testament
I have only one set of verses to quote from the New Testament. I had never really paid much attention to Revelation 12 but when I heard it being used by Catholics recently and heard their deduction, I knew it made sense.
12 And a great portent appeared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars; 2 she was with child and she cried out in her pangs of birth, in anguish for delivery. 3 And another portent appeared in heaven; behold, a great red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems upon his heads. 4 His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven, and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to bear a child, that he might devour her child when she brought it forth; 5 she brought forth a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne, 6 and the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, in which to be nourished for one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
This Section is known as, The Woman and the Dragon. Saint John the Apostle is seeing a Woman clothed with the sun, showing that she has been glorified in Heaven. The moon is beneath her feet and she is in Heaven, meaning she is in the Heaven above sky and space. She has a crown, showing royalty as a Queen and on the crown is Twelve stars. Twelve stars to represent the 12 tribes of Israel, and the new 12 Apostles who would spiritually birth God's new chosen people through the church. She bears a Male Child who is to rule the earth with a rod of iron, obviously this is the Messiah, Jesus Christ. There is also a red dragon that is said to be in heaven, Satan. So in this section of Revelation 12 we have 3 Characters, the Woman, the Dragon and the Child. Obviously they are placeholders in the story for real people. The Male Child is the Messiah who is Christ. There is no doubt or argument that the Male Child is a real conscious individual. The Dragon is clearly Satan and this is even pointed out. [ 4. Revelation 12:9 ] So there is no doubt that the Dragon is Satan who is an real conscious individual. So why is there so much debate and dismissal that the Woman is not Mary? Mary is the mother to the Messiah, Christ who is the Male Child and rules all nations on earth. So why is Mary not the Woman? You cannot rule it out, but I don't see a way how you could even rule it out. It is quite clear that Mary is the Woman who is being shown as a Queen in Heaven. Many argue the Woman is Israel because, "the Messiah came to be King of Israel the, the people and nation He belonged to!" Which some say that it most definitely is Mary, but can also have Mary representing Mary as all People of the World or Israel, but I feel like that is more symbolized by the Crown of twelve stars.
Final Section 3. My Closing Thoughts
I have gone over the various verses that have been brought to my attention in research and watching some Catholic Apologetics and it has become clear to me and others that the Woman of Revelation 12 is Mary being shown as a Queen because her Son, Christ is the King. Again like before in previous Articles if you see any misspellings and grammatical errors, comment them down below. If you have learned anything knew or discovered something you never realized comment that as well.
"The LORD bless you
and keep you;
the LORD make His face shine upon you
and be gracious to you;
the LORD turn His face toward you
and give you peace." ☦
